International Highway Safety

A goal of the Federal Highway Administration in engaging in international highway safety activities is to promote highway safety both domestically and internationally. FHWA:

  1. participates in joint international safety activities such as PIARC and OECD
  2. shares knowledge of our program with international visitors
  3. technical cooperation
  4. international harmonization of crashworthy standards
  5. obtaining knowledge of safety practices if instituted in the U.S. that may contribute to reducing crashes, and
  6. participating in departmental wide safety initiatives.

    This is the first review of road safety in Sub Saharan Africa and the objective was to analyse existing data and information on the road safety situation in order to identify the data gaps and priority needs.
