FHWA Home / Safety / HSIP / HRRR / Manual for Selecting Safety Improvements on High Risk Rural Roads

How to Use this Manual

This image comprises two diagrams. The first is a chart with color coded safety treatment categories, as follows: dark blue for horizontal curves, orange for signalized intersections, red for unsignalized intersections, pale blue for non-motorized users, dark purple for pavement and shoulder resurfacing, green for pavement marking, light purple for roadside, bright blue for signing, grey for vertical curves, and yellow for other treatments.

The second is an image of a page that appears in this document. It contains text and a table. Labels identify the safety treatment section title at the top of the page and the color coded section tab identifier at the bottom of the page. Within the table, labels indicate the color coded safety treatment matrix and point out hyperlinked references to the pages where specific treatments are discussed.
