Figure 3.12 is a chart showing sample frequency data for serious injuries and fatalities between 2007 and 2012. The chart depicts trends, showing that serious injuries have been decreasing steadily while fatalities have fluctuated. The purpose of showing the chart is to illustrate that by tracking data, planners can view resulting changes in crash trends. They can then use this information to evaluate the level of investment needed to continue lowering fatalities and serious injuries and to assess the efficacy of using various strategies to improve safety within that region.
