Dear Mr. Sandy:

In your letter of July 22 that was received on August 26, you requested the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) acceptance of the modified Type III barricade as a crashworthy traffic control device for use in work zones on the National Highway System. You requested acceptance of the Type III barricade that was previously accepted in FHWA letter WZ 197#1. Minor modifications made to the Type III barricade design are designed to accommodate stacking and shipping. These modifications are detailed in the enclosed drawing of the updated Type III barricade.

You requested that we find the modified Type III barricade acceptable for use as a Test Level 3 device on the NHS under the provisions of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program Report 350 "Recommended Procedures for the Safety Performance Evaluation of Highway Features” This letter acknowledges FHWA’s acceptance of your request.

This letter will be posted on our Web site in the near future.

Sincerely yours,

Signature of David A. Nicol, P.E.
