Scale and Scope of Safety Assessment Methods in the Project Development Process
Long Description
Table calculates total crashes and fatal and injury crashes for intersections, as follows:
Total crashes is calculated as:
- Average total crash frequency for intersection related crashes equals the exponential of -10.008 plus the product of 0.848 and the natural log of major road AADT plus the product of 0.448 and the natural log of minor road AADT. (HSM Equation 11-11, p. 11-21 with 4ST Total (4-lane stop on minor) constants from HSM Table 11-7, p. 11-22.)
- Average total crash frequency for intersection related crashes equals the exponential of -10.008 plus the product of 0.848 and the natural log of major road AADT plus the product of 0.448 and the natural log of minor road AADT equals 12.80 (Total Crashes).
Fatal plus injury crashes is calculated as:
- Average fatal and injury crash frequency for intersection-related crashes equals the exponential of -11.554 plus the product of 0.888 and natural log of major road AADT plus the product of 0.525 and the natural log of minor road AADT. (HSM Equation 11-11 with 4ST Fatal and injury constants from HSM Table 11-7, p. 11-22)
- Average fatal and injury crash frequency for intersection-related crashes equals the exponential of -11.554 plus the product of 0.888 and natural log of 30,000 plus the product of 0.525 and natural log of 5,000 equals 7.94 (Fatal plus injury crashes).
