Figure 6.13 is a screenshot from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, showing the safety project prioritization criteria for capacity projects in the State. For segments, crash density, the severity index, and the critical crash rate are equally weighted at 33 percent to determine the safety score. For intersections, crash frequency and severity index are equally weighted at 50 percent to determine the safety score.
